Summary

Automating engineering activities depends on information that is collected and integrated along the engineering chain. Large companies have built engineering information logistics for this, but their solutions do not transfer to the small and medium-sized enterprises that make up much of European industry. Based on four application cases, the paper collects requirements for implementing engineering information logistics and presents and validates a process model for doing so, to help SMEs build the digital skills needed for automated engineering.
