Summary
Collaborative engineering across an Industry 4.0 toolchain needs information from different disciplines integrated consistently on the basis of established standards. The article shows how engineering data modelled in AutomationML can be integrated systematically into the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), so that domains can collaborate consistently and engineering changes can be managed in a controlled way.
The approach has three parts: a formally defined integration method for AAS and AutomationML, an AAS-based structured description of engineering changes as the outcome of collaboration, and a framework that propagates these formally specified changes to the unified AutomationML model across the toolchain. It is evaluated on an industrial use case. An earlier, German-language account of combining AAS and AutomationML was presented at EKA 2026: Kombination von AAS und AutomationML für durchgängiges Engineering.
