Summary

The Formalized Process Description (FPD) according to VDI/VDE 3682 is a standardized graphical notation for processes, but it has had no tool-independent, machine-readable exchange format. The paper presents an AutomationML domain library based on CAEX 3.0 that covers the FPD language elements, their attributes, connection semantics and diagram layout information.

The library is organised into semantic roles, connection types, attribute libraries for the information model and for diagram interchange, and instantiation templates. The authors discuss the design decisions and their alternatives, and demonstrate the library with a bidirectional mapping tool between a web-based FPD modeler and AutomationML. The library is proposed as a candidate for Part 3 of VDI/VDE 3682.

Keywords: FPD, AML, CAEX, domain library, VDI 3682, process modeling
