Trends 2025 – Evolving the organization, shaping the future!
The upcoming year marks a transformative phase for AutomationML e.V., defined by a strong organizational evolution and a clear technical realignment – all with one goal: to become future-proof in a rapidly changing industrial landscape.
Evolving the organization
We’re modernizing our structure and collaboration models to become more agile, responsive and community-driven – laying the groundwork for sustainable growth and innovation.
Technical realignment: toward smart standards
AutomationML is on the path to becoming a true smart standard. Through the formalization of all AutomationML specifications using OWL ontologies and SHACL constraints, we are creating machine-readable, verifiable models that enable automation, validation and intelligent data processing.
Deeper AML–AAS integration
The synergy between AutomationML and Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is being taken to the next level – enabling seamless interoperability across the full engineering lifecycle.
AutomationML as the foundation for AI in engineering
Structured, classified engineering data is key to unlocking the potential of AI in planning, simulation and operation – AutomationML is positioning itself as the backbone of this transformation.
In summary: 2025 is the year of strategic evolution for AutomationML e.V. – organizationally and technologically. We are building the standards of the future. Smart standards for a smart, future-proof industry.

A big thank you to all members and experts who have made this development possible. But it is also clear that we cannot rest on our laurels. There is still a lot to do and a lot of exciting challenges lie ahead of us as an association and for the whole community. So let’s keep going – collectively, with confidence, expertise and the common goal of constantly improving engineering!
