For this year’s AutomationML Conference on 22–23 September, we want to connect the history, current state, and future direction of AutomationML in one coherent program.
Day 1 – Past & Present
The first day will look at concepts and developments that have shaped AutomationML and its ecosystem over the past two decades – while also discussing where they stand today. Among the topics:
- 20 years of AutomationML – where we started and how the standard has evolved
- AutomationML Application Recommendations and Application Profiles – including the AR APC
- The AutomationML Editor and AutomationML modeling capabilities – how engineering information can be structured and connected across domains
- XML and JSON serialization – different ways of representing and exchanging AutomationML models
- MTP – the Module Type Package – an established industrial concept that uses AutomationML internally and demonstrates how AutomationML can serve as the information backbone of application-specific standards
Day 2 – Looking towards 2027
The second day shifts the perspective forward. Which technologies, collaborations, and research directions will shape the next phase of AutomationML? We will discuss topics including:
- The growing collaboration with the OPC Foundation
- The role of ontologies and semantic technologies
- How LLMs and AI-based engineering approaches can interact with AutomationML
- The development of a more open software ecosystem around AutomationML – making it easier to build, connect, extend, and reuse tools and services based on the standard
- And further developments that may become increasingly relevant throughout 2027 and beyond
The intention is not only to present individual technical developments, but to create a discussion around the larger question: what should the AutomationML ecosystem look like for the next generation of digital engineering?
Over the coming weeks, we will introduce the individual presentations and speakers one by one and provide a closer look at the topics you can expect at the conference.
